What is F.O.R.5 all about?

The Fredericksburg Off-Road 5 milers (F.O.R.5) have the same focus as all of our races: good, friendly, and fun competition. This is the first year that we are offering this type of event, but we have done our homework and are very excited to have the two F.O.R.5s as a start up to two weekends of racing at the Virginia Outdoor Center (V.O.C.).  We offer awesome racing PLUS a fun, relaxed atmosphere. Thanks to our amazing sponsors, we offer light free food plus beer brewed by our local Blue & Gray Brewery post race (no worries - non-alcoholic beverages will be offered as well). And what better place to enjoy these perks than on "the beach" of the Rappahannock! Spectators will have the option to take advantage of all the adventure the river has to offer since the race site is located right on the premises of the V.O.C. . Next to tubing, canoeing and kayaking, the center offers a rock climbing wall for beginners and experts.

Competitors will all run the same distance - an APPROXIMATE 5 mile course. Due to the fact that these are off-road events, the distances are not certified to be 5 miles. We use calibrated cycling computers to measure the course. In addition, your times will vary a great deal from running on the road, since the course has some good ups and downs and is tight and windy in places - but that's what off-road running is all about: Varying terrain and a splash of adrenalin.

Distances:

Approximately 5 miles

Race Start:

9:00 a.m. race start for all racers.  Race briefing will be held at 8:45 a.m.

This is a great course that offers everything from fire roads to technical, hilly single track. You will have to watch your footing in places and trust us - your legs will burn by the end!

Directions:

Coming North/South on I-95: Take Exit 130 to Culpeper. Stay in right lane and make right into Central Park (Central Park Blvd.). Stay on Blvd. until you pass Wal-Mart on your left. Make a right on Fall Hill Ave. (you'll see Sheetz across the street). Travel ~3/4 mile, cross over I-95 and follow Fall Hill down long hill. Cross narrow canal at bottom of hill and make immediate left turn after bridge onto gravel road. If you miss the turn, make first right after canal bridge into Normandy Village neighborhood and park there (little farther to walk, but much easier to get out later).

Coming East on Rt.3: Follow Rt. 3 towards I-95, but make a left into Central Park BEFORE you cross the bridge. Then follow the directions above.

Coming West on Rt. 3: Cross over I-95 and make right into Central Park. Follow directions above.

Parking:

If you are local, it's best to run over on the canal path. If you are bringing your vehicle, parking is along gravel road leading to transition area and in neighborhood across from the Virginia Outdoor Center. PLEASE DO NOT PARK ANYWHERE QUESTIONABLE - WE DON'T WANT TO MAKE ANY RESIDENTS MAD!! THANK YOU! Look for parking volunteers to guide you.

Race Day Registration and Packet Pick-up:

This will take place under the tents at the end of the gravel road, right at the transition area. Just follow the signs. Registration and packet pickup start at 7 a.m. and close at 8:45 (at the time of the race briefing). If you are in town the day before, you can pick up your race bag at VARunner in Central Park (from 10:30 a.m. until 6:30 p.m.). The store is located between the Cracker Barrel and Carrabba's (the Cracker Barrel is located across from Super Wal-Mart).
