Last year's premier of this race at the Quarry Trails was Awesome! This Virginia Off-Road Series race offers beginner and expert riders plenty of challenges, and racers are rewarded with great prizes, great BBQ and some local microbrew. This race will take place on a Sunday with a 5 mile cross country run (F.O.R.5) the day before, so if you have a family member or friend who would rather run then ride, come on down to the Burg for the weekend. There are plenty of sites to see and places to go. Central Park (the mega local shopping development) is within 1 mile of the race site. Apart from shopping, several hotels have recently opened and are conveniently close to the race site, in case you would like to pre-ride or run the course (which will be set up that Friday night). If you are in no mood to deal with large crowds and shopping, Old Town Fredericksburg is located about 1 mile in the opposite direction and its relaxed river-atmosphere is perfect to do some site Civil War site seeing and/or antique shopping. Downtown also has some nice hotels and plenty of great restaurants. The prize table is once again stacked by Bob and his store The Bike Stop and apart from the sweet Schwag, top male and female Expert finishers will earn some cash. The terrain covers everything from fire roads to steep ups and downs with log crossings and other technical challenges. If you dare to take your eyes off of the trail, you can get a beautiful view of the Rappahannock, since ~3 miles of the course runs right on it's bank. So come on out and join us for the Rumble! |
