What is the NEW R.A.D. Race all about?

You are looking for a race that is actually FUN and still pushes you. One that you can compete in as a soloist or that you can try to brave with some of your friends. THIS is the race for you!!

Athletes can register as SOLO Racers or as teams which  can compete in 3 categories: Male, Female, and Coed.  The teams can be as big as you want them to be - they will be competing for the ultimate trophy in each of the categories!

The paddling  will take place on the Rappahannock River. There are some decent rapids on the 4 mile river section, so be ready to get wet. The run is challenging with good climbs, great single track, and fire roads. Free post race food and beer are guaranteed to all competitors. This is set up to possibly become one of the best times you will have at a race in 2013, so come out and join us for this "adventure".

Soloists:  Kayaks only in this category - no canoes!  Soloists will race in 10 year age group brackets. You must provide your own kayak and safety equipment or rent from the Virginia Outdoor Center (V.O.C.) (not included in race fee).  Solo racers must have all of their personal gear approved at the race start by 8:30 in order to race.  An email with race information will be sent prior to race day.  Racers must be familiar with the race format and other important info before arriving at the race site. If needed, we will arrange for a shuttle to take you back to the race start when it's all done!

Teams:  Teams will race in one of 3 categories: All Male, All Female, or Coed. Canoes and safety gear will be provided by the (V.O.C.). and are included in the race fee. Teams are welcome to bring their own equipment, but the registration fee will remain the same. Team captains will receive an email with an informational attachment. They are responsible for sharing this info with the other team members. All members must be familiar with the race format and other important info before they arrive at the race site.

Shuttles will be provided from the registration area to the race start (see below).  Please be aware that you must wear helmets (this can be a bike helmet or one provided by the VOC).

The V.O.C. is offering AWESOME camping the night before the race - right at the race site.  Contact the  V.O.C. for more information and to make reservations.

No race day registration for the RAD, so claim your spot early!!

Distances: ~4 mile paddle, ~5 mile trail run.

All team members MUST finish each leg together to be able to enter the transition area or cross the finish line. Team members can never be further than 100 yards apart - in other words, don't let your buddy die in the woods!
